Eyebeam will host the launch and reception for this groundbreaking book — part exhibition catalogue, part cultural history — which documents more than 140 alternative spaces, magazines, and projects, and the significant contributions these organizations have made to the aesthetic and social fabric of New York City. Alternative Histories was developed from an exhibition of the same name at Exit Art (which closed in June 2012) and includes essays by curators and historians, and excerpts of interviews with artists and alternative space founders and staff. Come celebrate New York City's alternative spaces!
